AWS Cloud Security User Group West Africa

Firstly, I would like to say I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the AWS Cloud Security User Group West Africa community for the next 4 months (September 2023 — December 2023). I have some interesting plans in mind for the community and I hope to work with my fellow leaders and the newly appointed community ambassadors in persons of Ejiroghene Pepper, Oladimeji Oyeniran and Mimi Swem.

The AWS Cloud Security User Group West Africa has in the past few month done some amazing things which has built the community to the point where we currently are and I must say that the past leaders of the community David Okeyode and Imoh Etuk with the support of the fellow community leaders Tayo Fatoki, Tolulope Adeleleke, Blessing Ogechi Nowojiji, myself and the amazing lead teams have done exceptionally well.

In this article, I will mention some of the achievements we have made in the recent times, I will speak also of our plans for the community in the next four months and will also cover our future plans and aspirations for this community.

The Past:

Following the events that have led to the official recognition of this User Group on August 9th, 2022 to this present time, we have had over 50 virtual events and 2 physical events with the most recent physical meetup witnessing around 800 attendees and recording one of the highest attended AWS event for the year 2023 in the EMEA region with testimony from María Encinar our AWS User Group Global Program lead as can be seen below. I must say this is a feat we are most certainly proud of even as we plan to raise the bar higher.

The Present:

We have collaborated with some professionals within the community who will be delivering 1 hour of intensive training sessions tackling topics around DevOps and DevSecOps within the AWS platform. It is amazing to note that this training series has over 19 professionals in the community that would be participating for the first time and this fulfils one of our goals which includes carrying the community along in the growth process. This training series will run for the next two months starting from Monday September 11th to Tuesday October 31st, 2023. Below is a breakdown of the topics we will be treating.

We will also run webinars in the next 4 months which will be aimed at engaging the community and preparing its members to be up skilled on how to present excellent CVs, prepare for job interviews and successfully landing roles in the AWS market.
